The Tarcoles River is the 3rd largest in Costa Rica with over 50 species of birds, over 2000 American Crocodiles that’s 24 per square mile and 3 types of lizards. The Macaw Sanctuary is home to the Scarlet Macaws, Green Macaws & Blue & Gold Macaws amongst many other birds and animals. The Macaws are the most magnificent coloured birds and the largest parrot in the world. Scarlet Macaws live anywhere from 50-80 years. Costa Rica is one of the original places where Scarlet Macaws were found. Manuel Antonio National Park is the smallest National Park in Costa Rica making it easy to enjoy a short hike on the trails passing through scenic overlooks with pristine white sandy beaches. Lush green forest shades the beaches with coconut palms, mangroves, and almond trees. Carara National Park with over 11,600 acres of primary rainforest this is a haven for the avid birdwatchers. View many varieties of birds like parakeets, toucans, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and wild scarlet macaws through out the reserve.

This small Macaw Sanctuary is a great place to see many birds & animals from Costa Rica and surrounding countries. Here there is an abundance of macaws from Scarlet, Green to Blue & Gold in the complex. Located on 20 minutes from the port this makes a wonderful tour for cruise ship clients or those looking for a half day tour.
Manuel Antonio might be the smallest National Park in Costa Rica but makes a great day trip for snorkelling, hiking, birding, and enjoying the beautiful shady beaches. Due to the popularity of this park it’s best to visit during the weekdays Tuesday to Friday.
Carara National Park located close to Herradura & Jaco Beach is best visited early in the morning to see the wildlife. Scarlet Macaws take flight to the mangroves in the afternoon. Listen for the Howler Monkeys high up in the trees. The vegetation is quite different here in this transitional forest.
UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rincon de la Vieja is one of our natural wonders in Costa Rica. Spend your day hiking in the forest, swimming in the waterfalls, and soaking up the volcanic mud within an outdoor hot springs.
